The beach and the sea: a source of health for people.
The beach and salt water provide numerous health benefits, according to experts. What is it about the beach that is so attractive? From the moment writing was invented, the charms of the sea have been described. Perhaps it’s the warm sunlight, the laughter of children, the beautiful shells, or even the endless possibilities of a vast sea that stretches to the horizon. But one thing is certain: humans are drawn to the ocean.
Long before the beach was a magnet for sunbathing, doctors believed the ocean had healing properties such as increasing blood circulation. Doctors prescribed trips to the seashore or visits to “bathing hospitals,” special clinics that offered seawater bathing treatments, as early as the 18th century. Recent scientific studies confirm that proximity to the sea can improve mental and physical health by reducing stress and improving breathing. Researchers found that the more “blue space” people saw in their daily lives, the less distress and anxiety they experienced.
